Barely a month has passed since the conclusion of both Coachella 2013 weekends, and we're already preparing for what the desert has to offer in 2014.

Starting this Friday at 10AM PDT, advance passes for Coachella 2014 go on sale at the official Coachella website. Weekend one will take place from April 11-13, and like the past two years, weekend two will be the following weekend: April 18-20.

No one claims the title of "cool" better than Miles Dewey Davis III: the composer, trumpeter and international jazz icon best known as Miles Davis.

Though not inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame until 2006, Davis' contributions to jazz and its various sub-genres—jazz-funk, bebop, cool jazz, etc.—made a profound impact on 20th century music, as well as to the betterment of countless music lovers' lives. 


This Sunday, May 26, marks the musician's 87th birthday. In honor of this special occasion, Legacy Recordings is featuring Davis as their current "Artist of the Month."

To continue this celebration, one lucky jazz aficionado will win a prize pack containing Kind of Blue 50th Anniversary Collector’s EditionThe Complete Bitches Brew Sessions (October 1998): a 4-CD boxed set that won the Grammy for "Best Boxed Recording Package"; Miles Davis Quintet 1965-’68: The Complete Columbia Studio Recordings (February 1998), which is the 6-CD box set that won the Grammy Award for "Best Album Notes"; and Live In Europe 1969.

“Nothing ever ends up quite like what you planned,” rasps firebrand frontman Bradford Cox in the closing verse of “Pensacola.” This lyric could serve as an apt credo for Deerhunter’s modus operandi: a gradual process of distorting and mounting upon tightly coiled grooves until the listener’s endgame, by track’s conclusion, has been met with a seamless sort of subversion. On the other side of the coin, the line has thematic resonance also, as the idée fixe of this particular case of monomania—as near or far as one can see—seems to be Cox’s curious preoccupation with his own doom. “And in my dying days/I could never be sure.../They’ll never take me away,” he finally issues on “Monomania”...
