Upon his eighth solo album, it’s clear now that Rocky Votolato was most successful during the beginning of his solo career, adeptly navigating the murky waters of whiskey binges and thoughtful self-examination. (Note: one should probably avoid mixing the two.) But, where to now? The Seattle native retraces his previous ventures here—enigmatic stories, broken guitar strings and all—still rendering a brooding, emotional hell worth revisiting, if only every once in a while.
