If you smile instead of feel cheated by a 45-second pop song that ends after one verse, then you probably like Bob Pollard. His 23rd solo record (and 16th since 2004) has a bunch of those. But smooth gems like “Airs” and “Who Buries the Undertaker” offset it with a relatively taut, clean sound that sometimes even recalls major-label-era Guided By Voices. Not sold? Wait a few days, when he presumably releases a follow-up.
