Pacific Standard Time - DAY & NIGHT
FILTER Grade: 79%

Poolside describes itself as “daytime disco,” which is really quite accurate. There isn’t much to be desired in the group’s debut album’s repetitive song structures, but taken out of the context of an entire album, each track has a driving, ever-building instrumental structure that is lethargic, mesmerizing and slightly hypnotic. Poolside doesn’t seem to take itself very seriously, which is OK, but results in a collection of surface-bred introspections that are hard to appreciate as anything more.
