Lost in the Trees

If classically-trained musicians raided the indie-pop music department, this is the orchestral-folk result. While instrumentals and harmonies are spot-on throughout, they flourish amidst sporadic cases of vocal fodder. Case in point: “I take true love/I cut it up with scissors/I throw it into the fireplace,” Ari Picker tells in the chorus of “Fireplace.” If folk is the musical form of storytelling, here Picker and company might just fall a bit short.
