With DFA lynchpin James “LCD Soundsystem” Murphy somewhat-retired from the groove game, it’s time for the likes of The Rapture and John “Juan” Maclean to step up (and then step down) to the dance floor with feeling. For the most part, Everybody is all about remastered cuts, remixes and rarely heard outtakes from its previous electro-laced sessions. But if you never heard these recordings (the cutting call-and-response pop of “Find a Way”; the mech-tech-anistic “The Robot”; or the blooping dub of “Deviant Device”) this effort from Juan Maclean and Nancy Whang is as new as it sounds. This oft-forgotten brother in the DFA family has produced beats as innovative as any of Murphy’s, and tracks like the title tune prove why with its curvaceous, funk, Roger Troutman inspirations. Beyond that, Everybody is worth the price of admission just to hear “Feel So Good,” from the DJ-Kicks series with beats recorded by late drummer Jerry Fuchs. Dig it.
