Josh Rouse returns with an album that dances from the lessons learned with last year’s El Turista. Whereas that album leaned a little too far into the realm of calypso and tropicalia for him to pull it off convincingly, the Long Vacations give him the perfect balance of softer samba shuffles under his bus-journey troubadour adventuring. Throughout, this is gorgeous; every tune swelters in a setting sun, his voice honeyed in harmonies. Essential.
