Yes, It’s Valentine’s Day. Here’s Your FILTER Playlist To Get You In The Mood!
By Staff on February 14, 2013
As you may or may not know, today is St. Valentine's Day! Honestly we would be a little surprised if you were unaware of it since everything has been covered in hearts, teddy bears, pink and red since your hangover from New Year's subsided.
Nevertheless, V-Day is upon us and we have compiled a FILTER approved list of songs full of love and heartbreak just for your special day!
Frank Ocean -- "Thinkin' Bout You"
"Clearly Frank Ocean's 'Thinkin Bout You' makes this list." -- Evan Pierri
Golden Earring -- "Radar Love"
I am only picking this song because when I was a kid I thought he was singing "Red Hot Love" and the sheer thought of that as a child is enough to tickle yore innards. -- Pat McGuire
My Bloody Valentine -- "When You Sleep"
There is something so perfect about a song that celebrates the quiet moments in a relationship. -- Bailey Pennick
Kraftwerk -- "Computer Love"
Did you know Coldplay ripped this off for one of their humungous singles? I forget which one. -- Pat McGuire
Yeah Yeah Yeahs -- "Maps"
Equal parts heartbreak and yearning. Who can resist a plea like, "Wait, they don't love you like I love you."? -- Samantha Barnes
Galaxie 500 -- "Tugboat"
Because I just wanna be your tugboat captain. It's a place I'd like to be. It's a place I'd be happy. -- Breanna Murphy
Robyn -- "Dancing On My Own"
We've all been there. You're single. It's Valentine's Day and pictures of your ex with a new fling getting cozy start spamming your Facebook feed, or frankly, you're just sick of seeing any happy couples anywhere. If there's any song that can make you dance through it all, this is it. Thanks, Robyn. "I keep dancing on my own." -- Samantha Barnes
Dolly Parton - "Here You Come Again"
Dolly Parton has been and always will be one of the biggest bad asses ever, and I have been earnestly belting out her songs in my bedroom since I was 5 years old. -- Monique GIlbert
Teddy Raph & His Orchestra – "Dream A Little Dream Of Me"
Recorded in 1931, I'm betting I picked the oldest recording for this mix. I've always been a fan of Cass Elliot's "Dream a Little Dream of Me" and really like the version that was made 10 years before she was born. Either way, I think both lyrics and melody are pretty much perfect for Valentine's Day. -- Mike Bell
The Chemical Brothers -- "Swoon"
The Chemical Brothers manage to explain love in less than 10 words. Sweet and simple - the way it should be. -- Sarah Chavey
Icona Pop -- "I Love It"
That song during the Coke dance seen on "GIRLS" last week - perfect Valentines Day love ballad :) -- Alan Sartirana
Aaliyah - One in a Million
Everything 'Liyah says in the song is what you would want to feel from your boo. It's pretty self explanatory. Perfect song when you're driving out to your over priced sushi date with someone you probably aren't feeling as much as you're feeling Aaliyah. -- Daniel Wheatley
Talking Heads – "This Must Be The Place"
Wine-drunk, head-in-the-sky, shoes-off, hardwood-floor-sliding with your loved one. Make it up as you go along. -- Breanna Murphy
Lord Huron -- "She Lit a Fire"
Because for every girl who says she loves the chase, it's probably because she's known someone with a tenth of devotion that's demonstrated in this song. -- Angelica Corona
The Ronettes -- "Baby, I Love You"
Do I really even need to explain this one? -- Bailey Pennick
