Yeasayer Creates New World In “Ambling Amp” Video
By Staff on January 28, 2010
Brooklyn-via-Baltimore art-pop collective, Yeasayer, is set to release its new album Odd Blood on February 10. Odd Blood arrives with the hype machine revved to full bore, after the widespread buzz of the band's highly acclaimed first album, All Hour Symbols.
FILTER recently met with the band to discuss the new album, as well as the psychedelic and mind-boggling video for the first single, “Ambling Alp.” The video, which features a man with a mirror for a face riding a wild stallion across a desert landscape, is vocalist and keyboardist Chris Keating’s favorite video to date. Keating, who attended the Rhode Island School of Design, is also in charge of Yeasayer's aesthetic vibe, and wanted to indoctrinate listeners to their spaced-out headspace.
“We wanted them to create a new world,” declares Keating of the video directors. “We were influenced by surrealist films and experimental directors like John Boorman [Excalibur, Deliverance], so those helped guide our way.”
Yeasayer will be playing First Fridays at the Natural History Museum in L.A next week., to kick off their tour in support of Odd Blood. After that, the band will play a few dates in New York, before heading off to Europe.Tickets for the L.A show are available via ticketweb.
Get to know Yeasayer in the new issue of FILTER, hitting shelves March 5.
