This Week In The Booth - Mezzanine Owls
By Staff on January 12, 2007
Slingshot Echoes is the debut full-length available now from Los Angeles 4-piece Mezzanine Owls. Recorded in Athens, Georgia during the Spring of 2006, production duties were handled by Andy LeMaster of Now It's Overhead who has also worked with Bright Eyes, Azure Ray and Drive By Truckers.
The band's sound evokes the best of big, dramatic early '90s English rock ala Ride and The Jesus And Mary Chain. Tracks like the reverb-laden "Lightbulb" feature Phil Spector-esque drums crashing into distorted guitars, while "Flashing Lights" is all twinkly guitars and sparse piano. Take a listen and decide for yourself as we stream their full album all this week in The Booth.
Later this month Mezzanine Owls will play a string of shows down the west coast with Robbers On High Street:
01/22 Seattle, WA - Chop Suey
01/23 Portland, OR - Doug Fir Lounge
01/25 San Francisco, CA - Cafe Du Nord
01/27 Los Angeles, CA - The Echo
