The Besnard Lakes Score Big on New Ruffalo-directed Film
Montreal outfit The Besnard Lakes have been around the music scene for quite some time, but this month they’ll be debuting on a number of scenes altogether. The band was approached to score Mark Ruffalo’s directorial debut Sympathy for Delicious, set to premiere at the upcoming Sundance Film Festival, Jan. 21-31.

Founding member Jace Lasek is used to taking the lead—from being a frontman to producing records, most notably for artists like Stars and Wolf Parade. He recently spoke with FILTER about his approach to scoring a film:

“With our own material, we’re always being bold—making big brush strokes,” said Lasek. “But with a film, you have to be really subtle. You can’t steal the moment, only accentuate it.”

The Lakes are gearing up for their new album The Besnard Lakes Are the Roaring Night out March 9. Get to know more about The Besanard Lakes in the new issue of FILTER, hitting shelves March 5.
