Punk-vet Ted Leo (of Ted Leo & The Pharmacists) doesn’t have a problem sharing his pipes for a greater cause. In fact, if you’re in Brooklyn, or in the vicinity, you’re in luck to check out Leo belt it out on Jan. 27 for the Haitian earthquake victims at Bell House in Brooklyn, NY.
FILTER recently caught up with Leo and talked about his new album The Brutalist Bricks, coming out March 9, and why he still appeals to the youth of the new generation.
“First of all, the simple fact is that people are always being born and discovering all music as new—that’s just the nature of … nature,” says Leo with a laugh. “Then again, I’d hope that the continuing appeal we might have for crusty old dudes like ourselves and young kids just getting into us is that as far a-field as it may stray from time to time, it’s essentially grounded in punk rock as a form.”
Leo will be joined with Jimmy Fallon, Michael Showalter, and many others at the Strength Through Unity: A Brooklyn Benefit for Haiti (get tickets here). Look out for more on Ted Leo in the next issue of FILTER coming out on March 5.
