It's 2012, and we're kicked in full gear. We're preparing our ears for some of the most highly anticipated musical experiences of the season. FILTER decided to help you out with getting to know who will bring the buzz SXSW 2012, and we're predicting you'll be praising these picks by the end of the extravaganza in Austin.
Gardens & Villa
Santa Barbara natives Gardens & Villa chatted with FILTER in 2011 in conjunction with their highly anticipated self-titled debut via Secretly Canadian. Their release fills out the quota for fremented and blatant indie pop-rock, in the most tasteful way of course. As charming as their music is, Gardens & Villa are intelligibly set to develop as a band, making it a most rewarding experience for listeners. Listen below to dive into the band's work.
FILTER is very familiar with Brooklyn-based DJ duo, The Knocks. Back in December 2011, the duo gave the world an early listen to the EP with a full stream of their Magic EP (A&M/Octone) here on FILTER (stream below). The release saw such success while debuting in the Top 10 on the iTunes Dance Chart. After making such a huge impression amongst the blogosphere, The Knocks have succeeded in owning up to their hype with this chart rising success. The Knocks have produced and remixed for the likes of Ellie Goulding, Passion Pit, Foster The People, Marina and the Diamonds, Chiddy Bang, and Rihanna and the NME called them one of the “20 hottest producers in music". Listen The Knocks' Magic EP below.
John Talabot
After experiencing Delorean, listeners were drowling for more from Spain. Barcelonian DJ/producer John Talabot butters up eardrums with as much washed-out bliss house tracks can get. Carrying a slightly mysterious air, Talabot continues to impress the indie electronic scene. He is set to release his debut LP, ƒIN February 6 via Permanent Vacation. Check out a leak from the album "So Will Be Now" below, along with previously released tracks.
