RECAP: FILTER Sessions At Life Is Beautiful Festival Presented By 2014 Toyota Corolla

This weekend marked the first ever Life Is Beautiful festival in Downtown Las Vegas and we were thrilled to be a part of it. For this inaugural music, arts, learning and culinary extravaganza, FILTER teamed up with Toyota to bring festival goers, chefs and bands an exclusive experience that was not to miss.

Beyond the innovative installations within cars (including a sweet hologram photo booth and a much necessary charging station), Toyota and FILTER came together to present FILTER Sessions: intimate sets and interviews with some of our favorite groups performing throughout the weekend.

We woke up bright and early on Saturday, endured the heat and got to see memorable performances by Cults, Chancellor Warhol, Cayucas, Alpine and Dawes. The afternoon sessions gave fans a chance to watch their must-see favorites up close and personal.

The FILTERxToyota tent was packed on Sunday for a very special acoustic performance by Passion Pit’s Michael Angelakos who told the animate crowd a never before heard story behind Gossamer’s hit “Take A Walk” before launching into a version that might replace the original as our favorite. Robert DeLong followed Angelakos’ example and traded his synths and beat machine for a simple guitar and a quick q&a with the audience. Nico Vega and Cosmic Suckerpunch turned up the volume and played dynamic full band sets getting everyone ready for the immense amount of rock headed for them later that night.

While we at FILTER are known for our love of music, we could not stop drooling—and giving our money away—to the magical Life Is Beautiful land that was Culinary Village. To cap off our FILTER sessions for LIB, we spoke to Nina Manchev (head chef at Forte Las Vegas) about seasonal ingredients, the benefit of small plates and why, if she was a Las Vegas Hotel/Casino, she would be the Cosmopolitan.

If you were there this weekend, thanks for making the first ever Life Is Beautiful such a resounding success, if you weren’t check out a few of our favorite FILTER session photos below. Make sure to stay tuned for full interviews, fun Polaroids and exclusive tracks from each band!
