After sharing some time with Joshua the Baboon, The Japanese Popstars have dropped their Astralwerks debut Controlling Your Allegiance. The Northern Ireland trio's alternatively aggressive and highly addictive debut is currently streaming in full on Spinner.com and now available for purchase. These guys bring a no frills electronic album with guest vocals from Robert Smith (The Cure), Lisa Hannigan, Jon Spencer (of Blues Explosion), Tom Smith (The Editors), Green Velvet, Morgan Kibby (M83), and Ireland's own James Vincent McMorrow, adding to the UK's vibrant nu-electro scene.
The Japanese Popstars are giving fans a taste of what they want to hear while still identifying themselves as a band track by track. Honoring the sounds pioneered by Chemical Brothers, Prodigy and Underworld, The Japanese Popstars have ultimately given their entire album a full body and unique sound within its own genre gaining new ground and fans within the electronic scene. The band are also not afraid to slow things down to 100 BPM, as evidenced on "Shells Of Silver", their sublime downtempo collaboration with James Vincent McMorrow, already a favorite with radio programmers and fans alike.
The trio will be hitting the U.S. this month. Take a look at their official touring trailer and dates below.
