OBSESSIVE COMPULSIONS: FILTER’s Weekly Picks

FILTER likes music. There's no hiding it. We also like our own opinions a whole bunch, so once a week we give the masses a fleeting glimpse into our selective stereos and Internet browsers to let them see firsthand what fuels our endless devotion. We like to think of it as community service. We're selfless like that. So without further ado, here are the official, inarguable, objectively good FILTER Weekly Picks—providing everything from new LPs you should be spinning to the latest good-fer-you videos. Yeah, we're good at what we do:

Italian Horn

Why: Italian Horn is a new solo project from New York writer Anthony Pappalardo.  Pappalardo is responsible for two amazing books: Radio Silence, and Live…Suburbia.  Both document the punk and hardcore scene in their own unique ways.  Although more known for being some what of a punk rock/counter culture historian, his band is on more of a lofi shoegaze vibe.  Layered soundscapes are held together by a reverbed guitar and a driving rhythm section.  No matter what the medium it seems that a consistent theme of quality strings Pappalardo’s work together.  you can purchase the record via Dais Records here and or check them out at their first NYC show this Wednesday (April 4th). - Andrew Courtien

Kimbra, Settle Down EP

Why: I like it - Alan Sartirana

We Bought a Zoo
Why: On Blu-ray and DVD this week from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment. Check out director Cameron Crowe's recent EndNote in the newest issue of FILTER as well as FILTER favorite Jonsi's original score! - Pat McGuire

Chumbawamba, "Tubthumping"
Why: This song gets me pumped. All day every day. - Tim Dove

Tallinn, Estonia
Why: I just got back from Tallinn Music Week and feel like I stepped back in time to the medieval period. Tallinn's old town has buildings and streets that are centuries older than anything you'll find in the US.  Truly beautiful. - Mike Bell

GoPro Hero2
Why: I had been searching for a camera that was both compact and waterproof to adventure around with on an upcoming trip to Thailand.  This GoPro camera fit the bill perfectly, and yes..I plan to strap that bad boy on my head while I'm thrashing through the jungle. - Ian Hendrickson
