Already making huge waves in the UK, West London folk-rock quartet Mumford & Sons are finally hitting the US. The banjo-wielding bandits will be playing several shows next month in both the US and Canada. The band, who formed in 2007, are Marcus Mumford, Ben Lovett, Ted Dwane and Country Winston Marshall. Marcus Mumford, fresh from the urban sprawl of West London, is essentially a one-man band. He leads the group with his powerful vocals, bass drum, tambourines and stomps, while the other boys take on the banjo, dobro, electric guitar, keyboards and the occasional squeezebox.
FILTER recently spoke with the band to discuss their new album "Sigh No More", as well as the inspirations behind their refreshing sound:
“Folk music suffers from [people's perception] that it is a soft art form," says keyboardist Ben Lovett. "But I think it's the hardest to write and perform. You can't hide behind fancy frills and bells and whistles. You're not singing about something you don't care about."
Look out for more from Mumford and Sons in the upcoming issue of FILTER, out March 5.
Mumford & Sons are set to release their US debut album “Sigh No More”, March 2 on Glassnote Records. For a full list of US and Canadian tour dates, check the Mumford & Sons official website.
