Being the son of folk legends Richard and Linda Thompson would presumably be a daunting task. Apparently that pressure doesn't affect Teddy Thompson.
FILTER pinned down Mr. Thompson for a quick interview recently where he talked about his new album, Bella, where his sarcasm comes from, what he is currently listening to and more.
Teddy Thompson also recently did a private performance for KCRW which will air on Morning Becomes Eclectic on April 4th. Be sure to tune in!
Pick up Bella Right Here.
Tell us about "Bella" how is it different from your previous releases?
It's bigger. Literally. We've released it on a CD format that I invented that is 1/4" larger in diameter than a normal disc. We thought it would help make me stand out from the crowd so to speak. (The digital version is a virtual 1/4" bigger). The fact that you can't listen to either (due to some technical issues) is just creating more buzz I think.
What do you hope listeners gather from this album?
That I exist.
We love all the sarcastic undertones in your writing, were did this stem from?
I'm English.
Who are you listening to right now?
Jon Grant. Almost nonstop in my rental car (in LA all week). I love his lyrics, not your usual love/above bollocks like I write.
Also, Krystle Warren. God given talent that girl's got. Find her performance on Jules Holland on YouTube.
You're on tour at the moment; do you have any interesting travel secrets for road?
Exercise. This is the first tour I've done it but man, it helps. I still drink too much some nights and smoke and of course I ain't givin' up that crack pipe just yet but it's all about balance right?
