LOOK: Light In The Attic Celebrates 10 Years

If you were to come across a Serge Gainsbourg or Jane Birkin album at the record store, you'd probably assume that it came from some far-off, romantic place with outdoor cafes and bright city lights. You wouldn't think that it most likely came from a damp place in the upper corner of the Pacific Northwest.

For the last 10 years the Seattle label Light In The Attic has been reissuing some of the most sought-after albums from artists like the aforementioned Gainsbourg and Birkin, Karen Dalton, Bette Davis and The Free Design. But when it's not scouring the earth for out-of-print gems, Light In The Attic is also releasing new albums from artists like The Black Angels and Nicole Willis.

Founded in 2002 by Matt Sullivan and Josh Wright, Light In The Attic is celebrating its 10 year anniversary by organizing two special concerts in Seattle and Los Angeles featuring Rodriguez, Michael Chapman, Donnie & Joe Emerson Shin Joong Hyun, and Stephen John Kalinich. The Seattle label is also planning to kick-off a 7-inch singles series featuring acts like Iggy Pop & Zig Zags, Charles Bradley & The Menahan Street Band, and Mark Lanegan covering Light In The Attic songs.

The tenth year looks to be a fun one for Light In The Attic and hopefully we can all help to keep the light on for another 10 more.
