Johnny Marr is easily one of the most iconic alt-rock guitar geniuses to date, whether you examine his prolific role as Morrissey's musical BFF in The Smiths, or his contributions to a diverse set of legendary U.K. and U.S. acts, including The The and Modest Mouse. Last time FILTER chronicled what was going on in the magical world of Marr, we discussed his partnership with Fender and the fruitful result: the Johnny Marr Jaguar.
Now, we have some even greater news to announce: the release of his first solo album, which will officially be available come February 26 via Sire/ADA. The Messenger, written and produced by Marr, will consist of 12 tracks that are a captivating combination of avant-garde art rock and classic rock 'n' roll.
Though he's been living in Portland since the mid-2000s, Marr made his way back to the U.K. to create what will surely be his most personal masterpiece thus far.
