Jesca Hoop dishes on working with Elbow’s Guy Garvey

Originally hailing from Southern California but now residing in the U.K., Jesca Hoop and her genre-mashing and melodic sound is making a big impression overseas. She is now set to release her second full-length album Hunting My Dress here in the U.S., her exposure, no doubt helped by the stranger-than-fiction fact that she served as nanny to the children of Tom Waits and Kathleen Brennan.
Already earning rave reviews in the U.K., as well as endorsements from Elbow front man Guy Garvey, who appears on the new album and mentor Tom Waits –who describes her music as, ‘like going swimming in a lake at night”- the future is looking bright for this American born singer-songwriter.
FILTER recently caught up with Jesca Hoop and talked about her new remarkable new album Hunting My Dress, as well her musical relationship with Guy Garvey and her decision to move to the ‘smaller-circuit’ of the UK.
“I was sitting between my boyfriend and Guy Garvey and Guy was saying, ‘Just move to Manchester, Jes. We’ll look after you.’ Looking at it, with this incredible man on my right, and this other incredible man on my left, I just felt like I was in the best hands.”
