IN YOUR TOWN: DZ Deathrays Show Us Where To Eat & Drink In Brisbane
By Staff on March 9, 2012
At some point or another, you will most likely find yourself in a new town, city, state, even country with no idea where to go or what to do to waste time. Well have no fear, FILTER is here to help.
In Your Town turns the FILTER website into a virtual "what's what" guide to specific places around the world, but rather than us telling you what you should check out, we enlist the help of artists from those specific area. We might have the best taco spot in Tokyo, the best place to get your hair braided in Ontario, the cleanest toilet in London, there are no rules. The only thing we can promise is that these guides are for the true travelers.
Got a place in mind? Let us know and we will get an artist to cover it.
Band Name: DZ Deathrays
Where: Brisbane, Australia
Alhambra Bar (12 McLachlan Street, Brisbane, QLD 4006)
Why: This is a bar our friends own. They are turning what was once a bongo driven lounge dj cocktail bar in to a fully-fledged rad venue. Also we always get free booze here, so when you're broke it’s a great place to hang out. Ask Jesse to shout you a round, he loves it.
Woodland Bar (Brisbane, QLD 4006)
Why: It’s a rad bar venue that is in the Fortitude Valley. Always a good time here. Most of the people who go there aren't shitheads.. so that’s good. The whole place looks like it’s been built by someone who builds skate ramps. We have played some awesome shows here. (Sadly, this bar is set to close after Easter, 2012)
Wagaya (315 Brunswick St Level1 Tcb Centre Fortitude Valley, QLD 4006)
Why: Bad ass Japanese restaurant I have been frequenting recently. Has touch screens at your table to order your food and the prices are cheap and cocktails are awesome. Get the Ninja Turtle.
Ribbets (167 Annerley Road Dutton park, Queensland, Australia, 4102)
Why: It’s all you can eat ribs.
Little Larder (76 Moray St, New Farm QLD 4005)
Why: Awesome coffee and breakfast. It’s my favourite meal of the day.
TYM Guitars (33 Fern Street Buranda, Brisbane QLD, Australia, 4102)
Why: Tym Guitars is an amazing guitar store like no other in Australia. The dude makes (and sells out of) his Big Mudd pedals constantly. They have the best range of boutique gear and also the shop has a rehearsal space and a stage in-store for live gigs. They support local bands more than anyone else and it’s a great thing for Brisbane music.
Yard Bird (6/24 Martin St Fortitude Valley Queensland 4006)
Why: cool little ale house that is awesome on a Sunday afternoon for beers and hot wings.
