First Impressions:

- After a lengthy hiatus, a flood destroying their practice space, leader Brandon Summers shredding his vocal chords and not a single release since 2008‘s celebrated Keep Your Eyes Ahead, The Helio Sequence is back. With the dramatic variances in sound in previous releases, admittedly, I’m not sure what to expect:
- Wow. Summer’s gossamer vocals are in top form on Negotiations, seamlessly coating tight percussion and fluttering guitars on “One More Time.”
- “Downward Spiral” flirts with the sultry echo effect of layered math rock guitars, which not only incite a serious nostalgia for Foals, but also cause for an intensely refreshing listen.
- Negotiations displays a stunning versatility of sounds, crafting chilly track “December,” the ballad-esque “Silence on Silence,” majestic folk number “Negotiations” and sunny “When The Shadow Falls” with finesse.

Key Tracks:

“Downward Spiral,” “Hall of Mirrors” and “Negotiations”

There’s no debate here -- Negotiations was well worth the four year-long wait. A seminal point for The Helio Sequence, the forthcoming release sees the band digging back into their more experimental roots while simultaneously falling into their true sound. Can’t wait to see what lies ahead for the duo. Now, for those upcoming tour dates...
