FILTER’s Top 10 of 2013: Jered Gummere, of Bare Mutants
By Staff on December 10, 2013
When it comes to end-of-year lists, it's definitely not all about us; we love to know what our favorite musicians and artists have been digging the most out of 2013, too, and we're thrilled to share those lists here.
Bare Mutants, the new project of Jered Gummere (The Ponys), released The Affliction this past August. Here, Jered shares six of his favorite albums of the year, along with some illuminating commentary.
Jered Gummere's Top Six Albums of 2013
1. Thee Oh Sees, Floating Coffin
"Best band, best dudes. This record was completely abused this year. Physically and gigitally!!!"
2. Circuit Des Yeux, Overdue
"Haunting, menacing, and totally gorgeous. Perfect for Midwest winters."
3. Deerhunter, Monomania
"There’s a little more grit and grime to this one. These dudes don’t make bad records and if they did it would be on purpose."
4. Georgiana Starlington, Paper Moon
"Dreamy vocals mixed with great echoing guitars. Has kind of a ’50s vibe while still sounding modern."
5. Destruction Unit, Deep Trip
"Inhale everything, and go fucking berserk!!!!!"
6. Angel Olsen, Half Way Home
"Technically this one came out in 2012 but it’s been totally ruling my 2013 and that’s what this is all about, right? I love the production on this record. It’s totally mellow and sparse but if you listen close enough there is magic to be found in every song."
