FILTER’s Top 10 of 2011: Toro Y Moi

Last year, when our ears first delighted to the synth waves radiating from the South (hey there, Washed Out), South Carolina's Toro Y Moi promised to come at us with a one-two punch in 2010, unveiling the first of two anticipated records, Causers of This. However, Chaz Bundick's follow-up didn't materialize until this year in the form of Underneath the Pine. Maybe making up for the slight delay, Bundick also released a pretty excellent EP to compliment the 2011 release, entitled Freaking Out. Whereas Causers was a deep soak in meditative beats, his releases this year fully realized the project's live potential, incorporating four members and bringing the electronics and buzz back to the dancefloor with great effect.

Below, Chaz Bundick gives us his favorites from 2011: some seriously deep cuts—from James Ferraro to Chrs Brown—that deserve to be spun on the dancefloor right in between his own.

Chaz Bundick's Picks

1. Toro Y Moi, Underneath the Pine (CARPARK)

2) AraabMuzik, Electronic Dream (DUKE)

3) Kanye West and Jay-Z, Watch the Throne (ROC-A-FELLA/ROC NATION/DEF JAM)

4) Tyler, the Creator, Goblin (XL)

5) Azari & III, Azari & III (LOOSE LIPS)

6) Washed Out, Within and Without (SUB POP)

7) Panda Bear, Tomboy (PAW TRACKS)

8) James Ferraro, Night Dolls With Hairspray (OLDE ENGLISH SPELLING BEE)

9) Chris Brown, F.A.M.E. (JIVE)

10) Tiger & Woods, Through The Green (RUNNING BACK)
