Filter’s Top 10 of 2009: Steve Schiltz of Longwave/Hurricane Bells

Sometimes the only way to move on from a relationship is to overdose on all the good stuff—like our relationship with 2009. To end the year right, we are posting a guest artist’s Top 10 list of 2009 each day this December.

Today we bring you Steve Schiltz, founder of decade-old indie-rock band Longwave. Although the group has released four studio albums together and has spent much of 2009 touring the world, Schiltz recently began working on solo project, Hurricane Bells. While celebrating Longwave's 10th anniversary as a band, Schiltz also commemorates the year's top 10 albums.

Steve Schiltz of Longwave/Hurricane Bells

10. Phoenix - Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix: This is on here purely for "1901", which I still turn up when it comes on the radio in my car.

9. Monsters Of Folk - Monsters Of Folk: I am a sucker for anything M. Ward does.

8. Wilco -Wilco the Album: Ditto wilco...

7. Scout - (untitled): I play guitar/produce in this band...so far this is unreleased but this was finished this year, with help from Jim Eno from Spoon.

6. Yeah Yeah Yeah's - It's Blitz: The fourth song on this record is just great, large scale satisfaction. Awesome.

5. Little Joy - Little Joy: Released at the end of 2008, I know...but I listened to it a lot this year. I play guitar with these guys once in a while and I love it.

4. Daniel Lanois - Here Is What Is: Amazing. This has a great feeling, great vibe, throughout. And I love his voice. A good friend of mine, Steve Nistor, played drums on this.

3. OK Go - Of The Blue Colour Of The Sky: Not released yet. But through my extremely powerful sources, I have a copy. And it's great. Produced by Dave Fridmann, you can't go wrong.

2. Flaming Lips - Embryonic: Ditto this. What a great collage of "bitches brew,"can, "axis: bold as love" drumming.

1. M. Ward - Hold Tim: He gets two spots on my list. #1 only because I've listened to it the most of these, so far. Great voice, great guitar playing, I surrender!
