FILTER Good Gift Guide, Day 11: Host A Movie Marathon With These Timeless DVDs and Blu-ray Editions

Tis the holiday season and here at FILTER we believe in giving gifts that keep on giving. So in the spirit of the holidays, throughout December we’ll be posting our Good Gift Guide ideas for your picky loved ones.

Perhaps we might be in the minority on this one, but we've got to get something off our chest: luxury movie theaters are twisted. Cinema chairs are meant to be slightly squeaky and covered in someone else's popcorn. And Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet's 3D make-out sessions are supposed to get upstaged by the 15-year-olds sitting in the row in front of you. You then exit the theater and say, "I should have watched a different movie at home."

Keep that frustration building. Below are DVD box sets, reissues, Blu-ray editions, and regular releases to keep you company while you hibernate at home all winter.

Box Sets:

Alfred Hitchcock: The Masterpiece Collection

This special edition set has been available since late September, so it is crucial to act fast and get your own! Inside are 15 beloved Hitchcock thrillers, 13 of which have never before been on Blu-ray. There is also over 15 hours of bonus footage, including a fresh documentary on The Birds. This is 35 years of Hitchcock in one convenient set.

Universal Studios 100th Anniversary Collection

Considering how fast dairy spoils, it is a truly incredible feat for something to celebrate its 100th year on Earth. With that said, happy 100th anniversary, Universal Pictures! You are just as awesome as ever, and we thank you, profusely, for E.T., Jurassic Park, and even all six films in The Fast and the Furious series.

Bond 50

Our hero—Bond, James Bond—has officially graced the big screen for 50 years, and to celebrate, there is this box set with over 20 discs (and all the films prior to Skyfall) ideal for every action film fanatic. Fall in love with all six charming Bonds, from Sean Connery to Daniel Craig.

Tarantino XX: 8-Film Collection

This year marks quirky QT's 20th year in the film industry, so now fans are able to purchase his 8-film Blu-ray collection containing Pulp Fiction, Inglourious Basterds, Reservoir Dogs, Kill Bill vol. 1, Kill Bill vol. 2, Jackie Brown, Death Proof, and True Romance, plus discs of previously unreleased and unseen features.

Francis Ford Coppola 5-Film Collection

Now on Blu-ray are these fantastic films directed by Francis Ford Coppola: Apocalypse Now, Apocalypse Now Redux, Tetro, The Conversation, and One from the Heart

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Complete Classic Series Collection

This nostalgic set contains all 10 seasons of the authentic animated series, spread out amongst 23 discs. How are these discs held together? Oh, you know, just with a plastic collectible TMNT PARTY VAN.

Regular releases/ reissues/ Blu-ray:

Ted

This film is so wrong, it's right, thanks to Seth MacFarlane and his brilliant yet sick sense of humor. Ted is a live-action/CG-animated comedy, starring Mark Wahlberg, Mila Kunis, Giovanni Ribisi, and even Norah Jones for a minute. There is a lesson to be learned for each and every sinner out there this holiday season.

Total Recall Mind Bending Edition Blu-ray

Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sharon Stone, Mars, artificial memories—these are just a few of the reasons why this movie kicks serious ass.

Cinderella Diamond Edition 3-Disc Blu-ray Combo

Cinderella has officially jumped on the Blu-ray Diamond Collection bandwagon, alongside other feel-good folktales and cartoons, enjoyed by children and adults alike: Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Bambi, and Lady and the Tramp, for example. It's the same ol' story, but now on Blu-ray. Crazy, huh? There are several different Blu-ray and DVD combo packs for you and your family to choose from.

Finding Nemo Blu-ray Combo Pack

This adorable, colorful, and Ellen DeGeneres-filled film certainly deserved its Oscar for Best Animated Feature Film back in 2003. Watch this already perfect Pixar movie in high-definition Blu-ray, Blu-ray 3D, and various Digital platforms NOW.
