FILTER Five: Our Top 5 Austin Venues

The FILTER offices have been keeping the SXSW spirit up for this year with our weekly SXSW Buzz-o-meter feature and since we like our lists so much, we decided to dedicate a list to SXSW.

From panels, showcases and screenings to catching the best slice off a foodtruck in Austin, there's one thing you can't deny when at SXSW - hitting up the go-to venues for the ultimate Austin experience. The best part about many of the venues in Austin, is the variety of choices between indoor and/or outdoor stages. Beyond the fact that a lot of these are located near amazing food spots and bars, there are some that just can't disappoint and have become near and dear to our hearts here at FILTER. Without further adieu, here are our top 5 picks for favorite venues in Austin, TX.

1. Lustre Pearl

Tucked away from all the madness of 6th street, the Lustre Pearl makes everyone feel at home with it's down right cozy and laid back ambience (and not because it used to be a house).  Their staff are friendly and provide the best of service to the venue's visitors. Hint: ask for one of the Matt's (as of 2011, there are two there) to make a killer bloody mary. You won't be sorry.

2. Cedar Street Courtyard

To many of the FILTER Staff, Cedar Street serves as second home while in Austin. The owner, Rob Pate, knows how to treat his patrons right and the intimate outdoor stage makes SXSW concert-goers forget that they're in the middle of Downtown Austin - it feels like an amazing decked out backyard!

3. Mohawk

As a venue with countless assets, the Mohawk offers live music enthusiasts the option of enjoying acts inside and outside the venue. High-amped-up-energy is certainly never lacking here. They've made a name for themselves overall, making them a top pick for spots to hit up while in Austin.

4. Stubb's

The overlooked step-child to the outdoor amphitheater, this little room has hosted some amazing shows over the years. Overall, Stubb's is a super cool spot, has great booking, and a spot you just shouldn't miss.

5. Club De Ville

Although it's a magical place by night, Club DeVille is a great place to explore around throughout the day (especially during SXSW). As most shows go on at night, the outdoor setting is perfect to display backdrops for bands and allows for some creative light-shows. It's a plus when you can also go out back to the bar to enjoy some conversation with company.
