Welcome to the February edition of Discover the Undiscovered featuring Voltaire Twins from Perth, Australia. The indie dance quartet consisting of lead vocalists/synthesiser players Jaymes and Tegan, with drummer Matt and bass synthesiser player Jack released their single Animalia at a sold-out show in Perth in August 2011.

The track soon gained high rotation on Triple J, Fbi and RTRFM in Australia and was released in the US in November 2011 debuting at #36 on the USA college radio charts. The band has received remixes from European disco producers Lifelike (France), Moullinex (Portugal/Germany) and JBAG (France/UK), and their track D.I.L. was featured on French tastemaker label Kitsune’s 2010 Kitsune x Ponystep compilation CD and vinyl release. The buzz keeps on building for the Voltaire Twins and we’re excited for what’s to come from this band.

Let’s get personal with the Voltaire Twins….
Who are your main influences?
Arthur Russell, Bjork, New Order, Georgio Moroder, a lot of old disco - but it's hard to tell what has influenced us rather than what has inspired us.
How did you meet?
Tegan and Jaymes met in the womb. Jaymes met Matt when he was a teenager and Matt was in a band Jaymes used to go and see. Then he started producing records for Voltaire Twins, then eventually joined full time on drums. We met Jack in a club somewhere - not sure how he ended up in the band, but we're glad he did.
What is your biggest achievement as a band to date?
Playing at SXSW is going to be a huge thing for us. We come from one of the most isolated cities on Earth, where not dying in a dessert or getting eaten by a shark is a big achievement, so going all the way to the US to play music is big.
Where did the band name originate?
Originally there was just the two of us, and we wanted a name that played on the twin thing but was also somehow unreal. Voltaire sounded French, therefore smart.
Favorite Bands?
Chairlift, Metronomy, Xiu Xiu, Arthur Russell, Owen Pallet, Austra, Gang Gang Dance, Holy Ghost.
Plans to Tour?
We'll be in the US in March, and we'll be doing another Australian tour soon after.
Plans for next release?
We're partway through recording a new single and EP at the moment to be released in May.
