Discover The Undiscovered: Beca

For our newest installment of the "Discover The Undiscovered" series, we are featuring electropop songstress, Beca, whose musical talent and smooth voice has captured our attention. Over the course of her musical career, she has honed her voice into a sound that is both fresh and truly her own.

Just last year, Beca released two EPs, both of which showcased her talent for whimsical sounds and a breezy voice that is worth listening to over and over again. Each remix of her songs brings a new life to them, capturing different emotions that her voice manages to evoke.

We were glad to have the opportunity to speak with Beca, and you can learn more about her via our quick chat below!

FILTER: Who are your main influences?

Beca: Arthur Rimbaud, Prince, David La Chapelle, Kylie Minogue [and] choreographer Stephen Petronio. Lately, I've been drawing a lot of inspiration through mythological stories and the people in my life who make me laugh until I cry. You know who you are.

FILTER: What is your biggest achievement as a band to date?

Beca: This past March, I played at SXSW for the first time and at Miami Fashion Week in collaboration with designer Julian Chang. Having my song "Let's Run Wild" remixed by Ashley Beedle was really exciting, since I have danced to his productions many times and have always been a fan of his work.

FILTER: Where did the band name originate?

Beca: It's a bite-sized version of my real name. Xack Xweig, my drummer and muse, came up with the idea on the way to a gig. Although one of my aunts claims she thought of it first, so I suppose it was meant to be.

FILTER: Favorite bands?

Beca: I'm always listening to Prince, The Cure, Deee-Lite, Scissor Sisters, Aphex Twin and Jimi Hendrix. Lately I've been really into Korallreven, Kindness, Sun Glitters, Azealia Banks, Azari & III, and . Anything that makes me slow down and zone out, or totally freak out and dance like Big Freedia.

FILTER: Plans to tour?

Beca: I'm planning to go on tour after my album is finished. I can't wait to do that. Over the summer I'll be playing mostly shows in New York and LA.

FILTER: Plans for next release?

Beca: It's in the works. Stay tuned for the drop…
