Chapin Sisters Tour Blog: Another Birthday Passed And More Shows With She & Him
By Staff on July 7, 2010
Lots and lots of touring has brought the Chapin Sisters to all different places lately. From Spain, France and Germany, to Oakland, Toronto and NYC. With their forthcoming record, Two, inching closer to it's September 14th release date, these girls are not slowing down. In this BLOG entry, Lily and Abigail talk about their shows with She & Him, Lily's birthday and hanging out in muggy NYC.
This spring and summer has been a whirlwind of touring since starting out at South By Southwest in March. We’ve been opening for She + Him, and singing in their band. Three weeks in Europe took us across Spain, France, Germany, all the way up to Oslo and Stockholm, and across to the Netherlands and finally the UK, where we played two sold out shows at Shepard’s Bush and Koko then out to Minehead to “All Tomorrow’s Parties” where we soaked up some good old English rain at a seaside resort.
Then we met up with our friend Harper Simon and travelled back across the English Channel to do a week with him, singing backups as part of the Harper Simon “and Friends” tour. We got to eat lots of fish and chips, drink lots of good coffee, and see so many incredible sights. The audiences were wonderful and completely welcomed us, even when we didn’t speak their language!
Then we headed back to the US. June took us to The Sasquatch Music Festival and Bonaroo with She + Him. We opened for She + Him at “The Fox’ in Oakland, a beautiful Art Deco theatre that has been redone recently, and at theaters across the Pacific Northwest, into the Midwest and up to Toronto. In some off time from She + Him tour, we stopped off at home in LA to participate in a Beach Boys Tribute concert to benefit “Sweet Relief,” an incredible charity that helps starving musicians pay their hospital bills! We sang “In My Room” and “Caroline, No.” We also traveled back up to Berkeley, CA to play a show at the Freight and Salvage.
Today we’re in our hometown New York City about to play with She + Him at Terminal 5. This leg of tour started last week in Boston at The House of Blues. The next day took us to sunny Philadelphia, where we celebrated Lily’s birthday...
..with an outdoor concert on the river under the stars and then drove up to Maine. Now here we are here in muggy (and wonderful) NYC, our original hometown. It’s hot here!! We stopped by WFUV to tape a show with John Platt that will air in August, and yesterday we hung out with a bunch of friends by a pool upstate (it was 95 degrees out!). We played on July 4th at Governor’s Island (a beautiful ex-coast guard island off of Manhattan) and tomorrow we’ll head back out on the road through DC and down through the south. Thanks to all who have come out to see us and any of you who we’ve met on our travels!
