Bossa:nova, a live music events collective was founded in 1995 by Los Angeles DJs and radio programmers Jason Bentley and Bruno Guez, and long-time music industry veteran George Ghiz. At the time, the club was an extension of the ground-breaking Quango Record label, an imprint on Island Records. The club, hosted at Lounge 217 in Santa Monica, specialized in a low-key, no-attitude atmosphere, providing a haven for those with a genuine love of music. Alas, with the ever-busy schedules of the men involved, bossa:nova fizzled.
This Saturday from 7-11 PM, as a special 40th birthday celebration for founding member Bruno Guez, Nirvana in Beverly Hills will host a bossa:nova LA reunion, with sets from Jason Bentley, Bruno Guez, Allen Voskanian, and others. For more information, check out the Nirvana Restaraunt website.
