Blog: Screwed and Tattooed: The Legend of Sailor Jerry Lives On

Hawaii is for lovers, lovers of music and tattoo art that is. Today marks what would have been the 100th birthday of Norman "Sailor Jerry" Collins, the godfather of tattoo folk art. Yeah, every piece of old-school flash you've got on your skinny, pasty little bod was influenced by him. In honor of this momentous occasion, pick up a copy of Homeward Bound, a limited-edition hard bound book featuring 128 pages of previously unseen photos and essays. It's the companion piece to Sailor Jerry's documentary film Hori Smoku Sailor Jerry: the Life and Times of Norman Keith Collins (both available at sailorjerry.com).

And if you want to jump on a plane like, right now, and head to Honolulu, The Black Lips have flown all the way from icy Atlanta to play a secret show in Norman Collins' honor. The debauchery will go down tonight at The Mercury Bar in Chinatown, where sailors used to come to get screwed and tattooed.

Who knows, maybe we'll even wake up tomorrow with our own hula girl...tattooed on our butt.
