West Hollywood's musical landmark, the Troubadour, opened its doors to music lovers, activists, and social justice supporters alike. The cause: helping Invisible Children, an organization and movement that has been seeking to diminish the “invisible war” in Uganda, supporting its youth through the means of “film, creativity, and social action”. The organization is “redefining what it means to be an activist”, which was especially seen at last night’s Invisible Children 2nd Annual Holiday Benefit showcasing the musical talents of John McCauley, Blake Mills, Guards, Mountain Man, Cass McCombs, and Middle Brother (members from Delta Spirit, Deer Tick, and Dawes). Holding the event as means to raise awareness for their cause, the folks behind Invisible Children successfully executed their draw fusing musical sounds, the performers’ stage presence, and a set up that impressed all.
Something that was indefinitely obvious was the bond of those helping run the show. Hearing the stories they had to tell, these young adults have the most contagious passion for what they’re doing and have done with Invisible Children. The experiences they’ve cultivated come from the opportunity of having an organization that compiles a movement that not only inspires those who encounter these “roadies” and social changing conquistadors, but significantly marks the mission amongst others equally moved.
Their mission was notable last night, with the workers engaging people from left to right, sharing their passion with others as the night’s musical guests helped lend a hand in the efforts as well. The musical highlights set a tone over the crowd, making it known that they were just as supportive of the cause and purpose of the benefit. Although it was just as beneficial for the artists to showcase their latest tunes, they were all gracious in the efforts to support the event. The 2nd Annual Invisible Children Benefit provided new and loyal supporters with a time to educate and inspire, using it's representatives and the magic of good music.
