Air and RjDj Release iPhone App

French electronic pop duo Air, have teamed up with London-based music technology company RjDj to create an innovative App, "Love by AIR," for the iPhone, which allows fans to experience Air’s music in a unique, immersive way. Fans can choose from five different "soundscapes," and then use the App’s features to transform the musical experience in real-time by sampling and processing ambient sounds, the fan’s own voice and more into Air’s own music. Fans can also record their own messages or performances with the application, allowing them to share their own unique productions of Air’s music with their friends, and with the world.

As a way to introduce the app to the world, RjDj and Air are launching a contest to invite fans to create and submit their own Love recording. From now until March 22, weekly winners will be selected, and a grand prize winner will also be determined. The grand prize winner will receive an iPod Touch and weekly winners will receive Air's latest CD Love 2.

The contest introduces a new take on the mix-tape- a way to create truly personal music. Details about the contest, including samples of entries, can be found here. To access the application directly at iTunes, click here.

The RjDj player technology lets the iPhone operate as a real-time sound studio. The music of "Love by AIR" is presented as five different pages, or "soundscapes," that the listener can swipe between to shape their experience:

  • Chanter – puts your voice in the music, letting you sing, speak or add your own sounds into the mix
  • Harmonie -  vocodes sounds in realtime and makes them harmonize with the music
  • Papillon – samples tiny segments of sounds and creates audio butterflies from them, flying around inside the music
  • Voler – creates a rising texture of sound by sampling reality and layering / filtering them with the music
  • Voyage – takes you on a musical journey through all of the soundscapes

Air's latest, Love 2 is out now via Astralwerks. The band will soon set out on their first headlining tour in 3 years, with LA-based singer songwriter AM supporting.
