WATCH: Sigur Rós Discuss “Valtari” Track by Track in “Making Of” Feature (FILTER Premiere)

Sigur Rós's new album Valtari has certainly made an impact on us over here at FILTER, with the band taking over the cover of our current issue (which you can also get on your iPad). Now we’ve got the premiere for the “Making Of” featurette in which the band members discuss, track by track, the process and end result of recording Valtari:

As bassist Georg Holm says, “I think [Valtari] is a record that you definitely have to have patience with. Well, I hope it’s one of those records that you have to listen to five or six times before you realize what you’re listening to. To me those are always the best records."

The band has also been busy with their “Mystery Film Experiment.” This 12-part video series features a different director for each song on the new album. The directors listed include John Cameron Mitchell, Ryan McGinley, Ramin Bahrani, Alma Har'el, Clare Langan, among others. So far, there have been videos released for Valtari’s Fjögur Píanó,” which features Shia LaBeouf in the nude, "Varúð," and Ég Anda.”

Also, for all those filmmakers out there that enjoy a challenge, Sigur Rós has just announced a music video competition entitled the "Mystery Film Invite." Participants can choose any song off Valtari, and the winning director will have their video featured alongside the notable directors' videos from the "Mystery Film Experiment," and will additionally receive a $5,000 cash prize. For more info on the competition, click here.
