WATCH: Portland Cello Project Covers Pantera… Seriously

So here is something you don't see/hear every day… an orchestra… covering Pantera.

You read that correctly. Portland Cello Project covered Pantera's "Mouth for War" from the album, Vulgar Display of Power, at the Musicfest Northwest festival in September, 2011.

The group will also be performing Pantera's Vulgar Display of Power in its entirety on February 25th at Portland's Wonder Ballroom in celebration of the album's 20th anniversary.

PCP believes that the angst of Pantera is something not so distant from some of their favorite composers, including early period Beethoven, Khachaturian, Shostakovich, etc. To flesh out this connection, the group will play an opening set that follows a chain of darkness and angst in classical music from the baroque period, up through the classical and romantic periods, into the 20th century, including some seminal heavy metal songs. The evening will conclude with a performance of Vulgar Display of Power from beginning to end.

From Douglas Jenkins with PCP: "We're rather the ensemble that does Pantera, and we do it raw and big and aggressive, and we even collaborate with death metal bands like lesbian in seattle, we've toured with Buckethead, and we play Pantera hard and loud in a classy setting where your grandma has to hear it.
