WATCH: Jonathan Bates of Big Black Delta Glitches, Grooves On The Grid for “Side of the Road” Video

If you were lucky enough to catch Big Black Delta at FILTER On Rainey’s Dickies SXSW showcase, you already know that Jonathan Bates has some serious moves. Today, Pitchfork premiered the video for “Side of the Road,” the first single off of Big Black Delta’s self-titled debut, which is out on April 30 via Masters of Bates.

Directed by Warren Kommers, the black-and-white-ish video for Big Black Delta’s tech-pop anthem is reminiscent of The Matrix and Tron, with Bates’ dapper dance moves taking center stage. As the former Mellowdrone frontman grooves around a digital grid, he sometimes dissipates and glitches, which complements the song’s ambient, shape shifting melodies. It's rare when a music video serves as the ideal visual accompaniment for a song, but such is the case for "Side of the Road."

Check out the video below and make sure to watch Big Black Delta on Last Call with Carson Daly tonight!
