Highly acclaimed and pioneering genre-rebels of CAKE come bearing some exciting news. Today, FILTER and CAKE join forces to unveil this teaser and are pleased to announce the release of a brand new music video for “Mustache Man (Wasted),” the third hit single from the critically acclaimed album Showroom of Compassion.
Filmed in Portland, OR by noted local director/photographer Alicia J. Rose, the video screams irony and jest. “When singer John McCrea told me that he wanted the video to be 'cathartic for a generation', I set down a rabbit hole that brought me to the idea of 'Repo Man meets Saturday Night Fever' with a bit of 'Fast Times at Ridgemont High' and 'Desperate Living' thrown in,” explains Rose. “So, the "Mustache Man" became a man from mars who stops by Earth to refuel on Girl Power, but gets caught in the act. The cast is filled with many of my favorite Portland actors and people, including the ingenious Michael Fetters as the Mustache Man himself.
Watch the preview and teaser of the upcoming video for "Mustache Man" below, where you might see a few familiar faces fresh off production of the IFC television hit, Portlandia!
CAKE frontman John McCrea says "We wanted a video that was both creepy AND life-affirming. I think we got more than we bargained for here."CAKE guitarist Xan McCurdy adds "We knew from the outset that we wanted a video that was exciting, funny but also a bit unnerving, and Alicia delivered that - and more."
Catch the band for their return to Conan on February 16, where they are to perform the "Mustache Man", which has currently found it's way to the Top 20 charts and rising at Alternative Radio.
