It's always been said that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, and if that's the case, Young Statues is setting out to flatter all of their musical heroes. The Philadelphia indie-rock quartet has just released a new EP (aptly titled Covers) via Run For Cover records which includes remakes of tracks by great artists like Ryan Adams and New Order.
Our favorite track from the light-hearted EP is their take on The Magnetic Fields' classic "California Girls" from 2008's Distortion which--unlike the Beach Boys ode to West Coast ladies--exposes the worst of the women that the Golden State has to offer. Instead of the fuzzed-out and droning tone of the original, Carmen Cirignano and co strip the track down and give it new life.
