The New York City quintet that almost single handedly defined the sound of rock and roll at the beginning of this century is back with a new track and a new sound. The Strokes--Julian Casablancas, Nick Valensi, Albert Hammond Jr., Nikolai Fraiture and Fabrizio Moretti--have just released their first single since 2011's Angles this morning on their official website.
"One Way Trigger" continues to follow Angles' 80s influenced sound, while pushing Casablancas' falsetto to the extreme. The track, which clocks in just at four minutes, once again delves into the issues of control, independence and emotional uncertainty that we've seen from this band ever since their critically acclaimed debut Is This It, but it seems to lack the raw emotion and relatability that always made the Strokes so influential. That being said, we're always game for a new Strokes sound!
