Cuff The Duke have ventured even further away from their alt-country roots with their cover of The Buzzcocks classic “What Do I Get.” Opting to stick with the original’s fast paced rhythm, the Canadian band adds even more variation to their new EP of covers In Our Time II.
It’s true to the original, which is kind of a frantic song in subject and definitely feels right kept as such. While Cuff The Duke shows they can hang with any genre (including classic punk), the bouncing keys remind you who it is you’re listening to.
Check out the cover of “What Do I Get” and what influenced their decision to pick it below! Cuff The Duke's latest release Union is also out now via Paper Bag Records so check that out as well!
"What Do I Get": Growing up in Oshawa, Paul and I were really into 70's punk rock. When he suggested doing a Buzzcocks song we thought it would be a great idea. We tried it a few different ways, trying to reinvent it but ultimately we decided to do a fairly straight up version and I think that was the best way, for us, to record this song.
