If you have yet to listen to the Montreal pensive pop two-piece, Valleys, there truly is no better time than the present. After all, tomorrow in Boston, Marc St Louis and Matilda ("Tillie") Perks start their spring tour, during the middle of which, on April 30, their full-length—Are You Going To Stand There And Talk Weird All Night?—recorded/co-produced by Alec “Orson Presence” Dippie (The Monochrome Set), will be released via Kanine Records.
Today, Valleys unveil track two, "Hounds," their second single off Are You Going To…? The surprising weight of Perks' airy, atmospheric vocals during these six minutes can be attributed to the suffering she felt following the deaths of several loved ones. During this mourning period, Perks referred to the ancient Chinese text, I Ching, gaining the wisdom, "You are drowning. But don’t despair; there are more important things than life.”
She beautifully echoes this advice in "Hounds"—"But it's only la la la life you're losing / you know there are more important things"—while she and St Louis craft an enormous and excellent pulsation of keys and sequencer.
