LISTEN: Okkervil River Shares First Single Off “The Silver Gymnasium”: “It Was My Season”

By Staff on June 18, 2013

Austin-based indie rockers, Okkervil River, are months away from releasing their seventh full-length album, The Silver Gymnasium—the follow-up to 2011's I Am Very Far—out September 3 via ATO Records

Produced by John Agnello (Kurt Vile, Dinosaur Jr., John Mellencamp, Cyndi Lauper), The Silver Gymnasium appears to be just as promising with its captivating first single, "It Was My Season," and its accompanying lyric video.

The serene, Autumnal background for this lyric video is a painting created by Maxfield Parrish in 1916, and it expertly allows all times of day to accurately be portrayed, from dawn until dusk.

The light shifts throughout the video, becoming a perfect backdrop for this grand folk song filled with resonant guitar, wistful violin and keys that alternate between peppy and pensive, all of which are carried by the eloquent indie storyteller, Will Sheff, and his moving vocals: "All that heart-in-my-mouth / all that head filled with doubt / is fading out / I hardly think about it now."
