Since Nightlands' second full-length album Oak Island was released last month, we've been fascinated by Dave Hartley's songwriting process, especially for the track "Nico". The dreamy four minute ballad was written right after Hartley's nephew was born and playfully reminiscent of a lullaby from the '70s.
"I wanted it to be a ballad and a lullaby, and lyrically it remains so, but the sonics turned into a magic carpet ride through various stages of a dream: surreality, full-bore psychedelia and, at times, borderline nightmarish disorientation," says Hartley on how he intended "Nico" to be.
You can find yourself lost in the song's ethereal state with the hundred melodic voices behind the Spanish guitar that's melded in with dreamy synths within the track. Make sure to check "Nico" below and enjoy the song's dreamy aura for yourself!
