“Dropla” is the first single off Youth Lagoon’s new album Wondrous Bughouse and the follow up to the breakout success of 2011's The Year Of Hibernation. “Dropla” is, again, a great showcase of Trevor Powers’ (the sole creative force of Youth Lagoon) brand of esoteric pop. Right from the start of the track you are swimming through Power’s world and he’s showing you quite an array of what he’s capable of. By the time the strings settle in you are completely enveloped in the song; taking in everything Powers is throwing at you. It is the warmth of the sun on a cold and distant planet.
Wondrous Bughouse is due out March 5th on Fat Possum. Youth Lagoon has a stint of shows leading up to the release as well as a show at the brand new Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn supporting the National on June 5th.
Powers says “…a lot of this record was influenced by a fear of mortality but embracing it at the same time …” This single feels like someone in conflict with a lot of things but ultimately enjoying the experience of discovering everything they can, then sharing that with kindred spirits.
