NYC indie rock quartet, Born Cages, is less than a week away from releasing their new album, The Sidelines EP, out June 18 via Razor & Tie. Until you're able to own a copy, feel free to stream all five tracks below as often as you like. We sure will!
A track that we haven't been able to shake off is "Caiti," with its feral, slightly demonic guitar, thrashing drums, spectral keys and Vlad Holiday's hypnotizing prediction " 'cause baby if you ever think 'what if,' if you ever think of me / Yeah, I'll be writing songs about myself for everyone to sing / You'll be singing too."
The Sidelines EP—produced by Jon Kaplan (Walk The Moon, Augustana) and Oliver Straus (Arctic Monkeys, Matt & Kim)—beautifully straddles the line between dreamy and discordant, and that's what makes it such a standout 17 minutes. Why half-ass other activities in 17 minutes, like folding laundry or watching a quarter of an episode of Mad Men, when you can become fully immersed in this EP that serves as both a reality slap and a pain reliever?
Experience The Sidelines EP for yourself below, and if you happen to be in New York this month, catch Born Cages live! Or at the very least, do them a solid and comply to the wishes of the EP's spellbinding closer: "Cover My Band's Song."
