The National have an extremely busy spring. Not only did this self-described “band of brothers” premiere Mistaken for Strangers at the Tribeca Film Festival, a documentary style, love letter of a film made by Matt Berninger’s brother Tom, but they will release Trouble Will Find Me on May 20. The sixth studio album has consumed the Cincinnati-bred band for nearly two years. In the newest issue, FILTER magazine speaks with The National, revealing how the film became an intimate exercise in family and how it uncovers more about the band than any kind of tour documentary ever would. The cover story continues on to explore how the influences of family life and parenthood have impacted their creativity, how they are charting new territory with their upcoming album and much more.

Queens of the Stone Age’s frontman, Josh Homme, speaks candidly to FILTER about his tumultuous journey towards the band’s upcoming release of …Like Clockwork, QOTSA’s first studio album release since 2007’s Era Vulgaris. When exhaustion and a near-death experience could have been his demise, Homme overcame his obstacles and realized there was nowhere to go but forward and that meant getting back into the studio with his QOTSA bandmates. With guest appearances by legends like Sir Elton John and Trent Reznor, and produced by Dave Grohl, QOTSA’s sixth studio album is the band’s most somber, contemplative and humble recording to date and is representative of all those who have supported Homme in recent years.

Seth Rogen Beyond Thunderdome

After more than a decade in the business and a solid “Apatow-gang”-groomed resume, Seth Rogen is undeniably A-list these days. The star spoke to FILTER in anticipation of his upcoming directorial debut for This Is the End, an apocalyptic film featuring a cast of actors playing themselves, including Rogen, James Franco, Jonah Hill, Danny McBride, Emma Watson and Rihanna, just to name a few. The movie, out in June, reunites Rogen with his longtime writing and producing partner Evan Goldberg.
