IDEAL SITUATION FOR SOMEONE TO LISTEN TO MY MUSIC
I let people discover their own ideal setting.
It would be with people who I know and who I can imagine how I could work with them. A lot of times with musicians whose music I like but who I don't know, it doesn't occur to me to try to work with them, because it's all about what the composite would be. The parts themselves might be totally different than what would come of them mixed together.
BEST SHOW EVER
In Lisbon last year, it was just really lovely, in a big cathedral.
WORST SHOW EVER
It's only been when the sound person or the sound situation in general is bad. There have been a few times, but I don't really feel like naming where!
LEAST FAVORITE THING IN THE UNIVERSE
A lot of stairs and no elevator at a venue.
MY SPIRIT ANIMAL
A fig. (Is that an animal?)
I'LL KNOW I'VE MADE IT WHEN
…Ohhh, I dont know.
ON THE ROAD
Well, tonight—we had to take a canoe to the stage, which was situated in the middle of a river, and the canoe had green lights light up whenever I sang. Also, recently, we only play in ancient or medieval ruins.
3 albums that inspired Julia Holter to make music
I always loved the oldies. The famous stuff…the good, old famous stuff. Maybe not to inspire me to make music as much as just to enjoy. Usually, non-musical things inspire me to make music more than musical things in of themselves for some reason.
Court and Spark
The Beatles (White Album)
