IDEAL SITUATION FOR SOMEONE TO LISTEN TO OUR MUSIC
On nice headphones, sprawled on your back on your bed like a starfish.
It would be with a geographical character, not another musician. We have been feeling an urge to go write and record in the Mojave Desert, and I feel like the impact that it would have on our music is more profound than that of a musical collaborator.

LEAST FAVORITE THING IN THE UNIVERSE
German roadside food. Coming from North America, when you first land in Europe it’s like this alternate reality where all the cities are close together, the drives are short, the rental cars are fancy, the food at every gas roadside stop is fantastic…and then you hit Germany. It takes a very long time to drive to Berlin from anywhere else and the food along the way is grim...and that’s being generous.
OUR BAND'S SPIRIT ANIMAL
A bald eagle. This is a bit of a confession, too: our spirit animal is, to date, the only poor animal that we have ever hit with our van.
ON THE ROAD
Our last show in Edmonton (which was, admittedly, quite some time ago) was pretty awesome. It was a basement show at Castle Awesome with our friends Born Gold, where somehow we managed to put 150 people into a 75-person space. Let’s just say that it got pretty crazy. The walls were dripping with sweat, the heating ducts got ripped off the ceiling by crowd surfers, and the drummer from Born Gold got his leg slashed open with a broken bottle. This is about as crazy as it gets for a band like us.
WE'LL KNOW WE'VE MADE IT WHEN
Our cousins in Australia can go buy our record on vinyl at their local record store.
ABOUT THE POSTCARD
This is a postcard from Raphaelle to Austin and Taylor while she was in the desert of Arizona. Though it doesn't exactly represent us as people in the flesh, for us it "best exemplifies our band's appearance,” or at least gets the feeling right!
3 albums that inspired BRAIDS’ Raphaelle Standell-Preston to make music
I heard this record for the first time in Taylor’s car back in Calgary. It affirmed that no matter what you hear in your head, it’s worth expressing.
Katie gave me this record the day before my grade 12 math exam. I listened to it the whole time I studied and I am pretty sure it had something to do with the 94% I scored. Brilliant writing and attention to detail on this album.

A sunday morning must around my parents’ place. It taught me the joy that music can bring people.
